The Uncommon Reader

The Uncommon Reader - Alan Bennett A BOOK ABOUT THE LOVE OF READING ...
The Queen, quite accidentally and only out of royal politeness, develops a passion for reading, much to the dismay of her family and stafff. Her royal duties, her tight schedule and even her personal care and appearance suffer because of this addiction to books.

This book was an easy read, 124 pages in a half sized book, but it contains some of the most brilliant insights into why people read and the impact on their lives that I have had the pleasure of mulling over.

A short quote from the book sums up the obsessive love of reading many of us possess ... "What she was finding also was how one book led to another, doors kept opening wherever she turned and the days weren't long enough for the reading she wanted to do."
