This story is told by two narrators, Renee Michel (the concierge) and Paloma Josse (a teen prepared to commit suicide on her 13th birthday). About 40 pages into this book I was quite prepared to close it, put it back on the shelf and call it a loss. I persisted a little further and found myself quite entertained by Madame Concierge and the comings and goings of her building and Paloma’s reasons for distress. These ladies both hide their wit and intelligence from those around them but share it quite willingly with the reader. I ended up liking this book very much.
